Integration of newcomers in Brussels falls under both the Flemish and Walloon legislation, so newcomers can decide whether they want to follow the Flemish or Walloon integration courses.

Brussels has developed support for integration on the labour market, where the Flemish community Commission (VGC) is responsible for the integration policy of Dutch-speaking people and the French Community Commission (COCOF) for the integration policy for French-speaking people. Integration courses focus on guidance, individual counselling on labour market employment, language assessment and vocational training. The application for a work permit in Brussels must in fact be submitted to one of the 19 municipalities, which must then be submitted to the Region of Brussels which often takes a considerable amount of time.
