Volunteer work

Services for asylum seekers and refugees spring up on a needs basis and this includes services/programmes that encourage one to develop their skills and competences. Legally asylum seekers are not allowed to work but anyone in Ireland can participate in volunteer work including asylum seekers which, in theory, may prepare them for if/when they receive their refugee status. Local projects and initiatives have also developed in areas where there is a significant asylum seeker/migrant population and some of these initiatives aim to keep asylum seekers active and to prepare them for life after they get their status.
