Information for refugees

Are you looking for an opportunity?

On this page you will find information when you are a refugee in the Netherlands and you are looking to access the Dutch labour market, have your skills or diploma validated, or if you want to know more about the rules and regulations concerning work.

If you have a permanent residence permit (type II or V), this allows you to work in the Netherlands, in which case the employer does not need to have a work permit for you. The residence permit should state: ‘arbeid vrij toegestaan, TWV niet vereist' (work is permitted, no work permit required). A positive asylum status also allows you to enroll in vocational training and higher education, and you can apply to have your existing educational qualifications and work history validated (For more information click here) If you are still in the asylum procedure, you may opt for volunteer work. Paid work is permitted before status is granted only when your asylum decision takes longer than 6 months. You then need to pay a proportion of your wages to COA (Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers).
