Employer in Slovenia

Owner of DG69 a wholesale company for organic fruits and vegetables

Mihaela's Story

DG69 is a company that was established 20 years ago and has been intensively working in the field of ecology for the past seven years. On average there are 20 employees in this wholesale company.

In Mihaela’s words, the story of employing refugees “just happened”. While looking for people to work at their production facility last year, Omar came from Ljubljana to Drenov grič to ask about openings. It was his sense of initiative for finding employment that convinced them. Omar is the only employee at GD69 with refugee status. He comes from Guinea. Before settling down in Slovenia he spent quite a long time on his journey through Turkey, Greece and Hungary. Omar is employed full time in DG69 with an employment contract for the fixed term of one year.

Mihaela’s clear-cut answer to the question is there a difference between a person with refugee status and other workers, “No, a person is a person”.

According to Mihaela, Omar immediately proved himself to be well-fitted to the job position. The company owns a machine for packaging lemons and oranges and Omar “connected with that machine and they work together as one”, as Mihaela explained. He is also a very hard-working employee who “breaks down stereotypes”. The fact that Omar is exceptionally positive as a person further contributes to this. Omar also lives in Drenov Grič as a tenant.
